How it works
When you pick a preset, the tool calculates the official output size in real pixels from the
physical dimensions and resolution — pixels equal millimetres divided by 25.4, times the DPI.
A 35×45 mm photo at 300 DPI therefore becomes 413×531 pixels. Your photo is drawn onto a
preview <canvas> that keeps that exact aspect ratio, with an oval and dashed
crown and chin lines marking where the head should sit. Dragging repositions the face and the
zoom slider scales it. When you click Make photo, the same position and zoom
are mapped up to the full output resolution and redrawn on a fresh canvas with a white
background, then exported as a JPEG. Everything runs locally, so the picture never leaves your
device.
How to make a passport or ID photo
- Upload a clear, front-facing photo taken against a plain light wall.

Tips for a photo that passes
Getting the size right is the easy part; meeting the biometric rules is what actually gets a photo accepted. This tool handles the dimensions and framing, but the rest is up to you and your camera setup. Use these tips, and always confirm the exact requirements on the official government page for your country and document — rules differ between a US passport, a Schengen visa and an Indian PAN card.
- Background: stand about half a metre from a plain white or light-grey wall so you do not cast a shadow on it.
- Lighting: face a window or use two even light sources to avoid shadows under the eyes, nose and chin, and to prevent glare on glasses.
- Expression: look straight at the camera with a neutral face, mouth closed, both eyes open and clearly visible.
- Head position: keep your head straight and centred, then use the guides to line the crown and chin up with the dashed lines.
- Accessories: remove hats, headphones and tinted lenses; head coverings are usually only allowed for religious reasons and must not hide the face.
- Recency & print: use a recent photo and, if printing, choose glossy photo paper at the size the office expects.

No. The image is loaded into an HTML canvas and resized entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server, so your photo — which is sensitive personal data — never leaves your device.
How do I use the oval and head-height guides?
Drag the photo to move it and use the zoom slider to scale it. Line the top of the head up with the upper dashed line and the chin with the lower one, keeping the face centred on the vertical line and roughly filling the oval. The guides reflect each country’s typical head-height ratio, which is the part most applications check.
What is the 4×6 print sheet for?
Many pharmacies and photo kiosks print a 4×6 inch (10×15 cm) photo for a low fixed price. The optional sheet tiles your sized photo to fill a 1200×1800 pixel 4×6 layout with thin cut lines, so you get several identical copies from one cheap print and just trim them out.
